Fair Land Assessments

In talking to residential and business property owners around the county, people understand the need for property taxes to fund emergency services, education and necessary infrastructure. However, there is also a perceived disconnect on the part of the Assessor’s Office which frustrates property owners. The experiences shared with me suggest little to no objectivity, poor communication and a general lack of respect for the taxpayer.

Admittedly I don’t know all the facts in these cases, but it is the resulting perception that matters most. If there is a general distrust of a public service, cooperation between that service and the community will suffer, as will the efficiency of the service preformed on behalf of the community. This shouldn’t and needn’t be the case, people need to know their property is being assessed fairly.
