Engelhardt's Objectives

As your Assessor my goal will be to create trust and confidence in the relationship between property owners and the office of the Assessor.

Nothing changes perception better then knowledge.Ā I will make the duties, authority and procedures of the Assessorā€™s Office more transparent and accessible to the public through;

  • Enhancing the Assessorā€™s underutilized website with easy to use and interactive information
  • Use of public service announcements and ads online and throughĀ social media.
  • Holding regular public meetings and attend community and taxing district board meetings
  • Enhanced public service training.

FAIR ASSESSMENTS

For most of us, our homes and businesses represent the most significant investment we have and their assessment should be fair and equitable. The methods and values used, as well as available exemptions, should be applied without bias. The mere perception of unfairness can frustrate property owners and compound the duties of the Assessor.

ACCESSIBILITY

The more informed the property owner is about the Assessorā€™s operation, the less alien and intimidating it is likely to seem. Greater use should be made of online services to make the assessment and appeal processes more available and interactive for the public.

TRANSPARENCY

The Assessorā€™s budget operations, assessment methods, as well as current statutes and pending legislation affecting property assessment, should be readily available to property owners.

CULTURE OF PUBLIC SERVICE

It has been my experience that for the most part, people want to do a good job and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and self-worth that come with doing so. It has also been my belief and practice that addressing personnel problems, instilling a sense of unity and promoting good morale are top priorities. When these are the standard in an operation, customer appreciation and service improve, and a culture of public service can thrive.

The best way to do this is with reliable and supportive management.

I have the experience and education required to provide the employees of the Assessorā€™s Office with the direction and support necessary to foster good public service within a safe, productive and rewarding work environment.

I ask for your support and vote on May 15th for Bonner County Assessor and pledge my dedication to providing fair assessments, transparency, accessibility and a culture of public service.
